The dermal fillers used by the aesthetic doctors at The Clinic Holland Park, West London, are all FDA-approved, hyaluronic-acid-based fillers, which mimic the natural hyaluronic acid that occurs in the skin. Hyaluronic acid has a number of important roles in the skin, including retaining moisture, and providing the framework on which our skin cells sit. When injected, the dermal filler combines with water in the skin to add volume, aiming to give a plump and youthful appearance.

The main areas that clients want to be treated are listed below (but are not limited to this – you can use fillers elsewhere, such as in the temples, jawline, etc – just ask your aesthetician):

Lips: to add volume, definition and smooth out the appearance of fine lines (often known as smoker’s lines)

WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF DERMAL FILLERS?

At The Clinic Holland Park, West London, we have the benefit of cutting-edge technology for improved safety: our V scan can pinpoint the position of blood vessels so that your aesthetician can carry out your filler treatment with ultimate precision. Nonetheless, as with any procedure involving an injection through the skin, there is a small risk of infection, but this is minimised by our practitioners using aseptic techniques to protect against contamination. There may be mild bleeding, bruising or swelling at the injection site, which will self-resolve.

There have been rare but serious side effects associated with dermal fillers including blindness and intracranial complications. That is why we believe that these treatments should only be performed by medical professionals who have undergone post-graduate training and who are practised and skilled in such procedures.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE for dermal fillers TAKE?

The procedure should take 30-45 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

DO YOU USE ANY ANAESTHETIC?

Dermal filler treatments are usually very well tolerated, although clients often report lip augmentation to be the most uncomfortable procedure. At The Clinic at Holland Park, we apply an anaesthetic cream to the lip area prior to any filler injection. Furthermore, our dermal fillers contain an anaesthetic called lidocaine that minimises discomfort when the filler is injected (please inform your doctor at initial consultation if you have allergies that might require you to have an alternative filler, without lidocaine).

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME after dermal filler treatment?

Clients can resume their normal activities after treatment with very few constraints. However, for 24 hours following treatment it is important to avoid using chemical peels and medical-grade skincare.
