Eyelid Lesions, Lumps, Blemishes & Moles

There are a number of different causes of eyelid lesions (or cysts), which can appear in any of the eyelid tissues: skin, glands, muscle, fat. Common examples are chalazions, sebaceous cysts, sweat-gland cysts, xanthelasma, and warts.

Some eyelid lesions might cause discomfort and disrupt your vision; other lesions might cause you upset on an aesthetic level, causing an eyelid to droop or red, watery eyes.

Removal of eyelid lesions, lumps, blemishes and moles

Most eyelid cysts are benign and can be surgically biopsied or removed completely under local anaesthetic at The Clinic Holland Park. Likewise, most eyelid moles are benign and can be surgically biopsied or removed completely under local anaesthetic; the procedure taking 10 to 20 minutes.

After surgery, you will be given an antibiotic ointment to treat the area for the following week; and be advised to apply a cold compress to the area every few hours to help lessen post-operative swelling and bruising. Recovery takes approximately 7 days. A follow-up appointment to review your results and recovery takes place from 1 to 2 weeks after surgery.

In line with best practice, any mole, lesion, lump or swelling on the eyelid or in the eye area should be thoroughly investigated. For this reason, samples of any eyelid moles or lesions will be sent for histological analysis (the fee for this will be included in your price).
